For years there have been two options.
Rent somebody else’s platform and live inside its limits. Or rent your own servers and become the person who looks after them at midnight.
People who run more than one business usually end up with both: a managed host here, a server there, a panel per machine, and nothing looking after the whole.
We had the same problem, so we built Fleet to run our own businesses and our clients’. The first import brought 34 of them, from three servers, into one fleet.
We do not think those should be the only two options.
Four beliefs, and what makes each one true.

Own what you run.
If your business depends on it, you should know whose name it is in, and be able to leave with it.
Your servers are rented on your own accounts. If you stop using Fleet, your sites, databases and email keep running on them.

The business is the unit.
Nobody runs a server for its own sake. They run a shop, a practice, a client’s brand.
In Fleet each business keeps its websites, database, domains, email and backups together, on whichever of your servers it runs.

Say what is true.
A page that promises everything tells you nothing. The limits belong in plain sight.
A move pauses a site for seconds, and we say so. We do not promise email lands in the inbox, because nobody honestly can.

A person answers.
When something is wrong, you should reach somebody who knows how your setup works.
A person reads every request and replies, and setup is done with you, not handed over as instructions.
Technology should give you more control,
not more dependence.
